Thanks From 2008 Kentucky State Doubles

The results are up for the 2008 Kentucky State Doubles Championships at Idlewild Disc Golf Course.

The tournament was dedicated to all the Adopt a Hole volunteers, past & present, for all the work they have put into Idlewild, to make it one of the best reviewed courses around.

The added temp hole, that played between holes 2 & 3 and played over the pond, seemed to garner some positive response.  It played much more sporty with the headwind on Saturday, than on Thursday night when we set it up, and the wind was calm.  Also heard mixed responses on the flowers that line the fairway on hole 15, however everyone seemed to agree they are beautiful to look at.

Many thanks both Fred and I would like to extend:

First off, the players in this event for preregistering and filling the field.  It was a huge help to us in being able to get stuff done the night before and for allowing Saturday morning to run relatively smooth.  We were ten minutes late teeing off, but hope to improve on that in the future.  Also thanks to those that filled out the survey for me after the tournament.  I think it helps to receive that information, since we are a work in progress with hopes to always put on better events in the future

Thanks to Boone County Parks and some gentlemen from the Boone County Jail Workcamp.  There were two men from the park district and six men from the workcamp that worked side by side with us on the Saturday, after the storm ripped the course to shreds.  Their hard work played a huge part in this event being able to take place.  Without them, I'm not sure the course would have been playable before tournament time.

If you see, visit, or contact any of these people or businesses, please let them know you appreciate all they do to contribute to Kentucky State Championships.

I'm sure Fred would like to thank his wife and also Tyler Horne, for answering his phone when he was looking for a partner at the last minute.  An early birthday gift indeed.
I'd like to thank my wife & kids and also Eric Simpson, for walking around in the woods with this sweaty fat guy for two rounds.

A Special Thank You

Idlewild Disc Golf Course took a beating from the remnants of Hurricane Ike, which traveled north from the gulf coast and hit the northern Kentucky area on Sunday, September 14th.

Numerous trees were uprooted, with additional ones breaking halfway up the trunk and hanging dangerously over fairways.  Entire branches, limbs and twigs were scattered about all over the place.

A special thank you to all of those that came through the following week and took part in a workday on Saturday, the 20th, to help get the course back in shape.

Ike took it's toll, to open a couple of new routes on the course and add a little width to a couple of fairways, but overall it's still Idlewild.

Again, thanks goes out to all the players, adopt a hole volunteers, and the Boone County Park District for coming out to help clean up the course before the 2008 Kentucky State Doubles Championships.

All preregistered players will receive a custom stamped Idlewild Disc Golf Course reusable beverage bottle with AMs receiving an additional players pack.

Preregistration Deadline Is 10:00pm (EST) Thursday, September 25th. 

There will be no late registrations, all teams must register before the deadline or they will not play in this event.

Check-In Will Take Place By Shelter Number Three From 7:30am to 8:20am.  Players Meeting At 8:30am.  Tee-Off At 9:00am.

2008 Kentucky State Innova Champion Destroyer

Here is a 2008 Kentucky State Championships CFR disc.

The disc, which is part of Innova's Candy Fundraising Program (CFR), is a Champion Destroyer.  The disc comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.  The bottom of that certificate can be mailed in to Innova, by the purchaser, to be entered into monthly sponsor reward drawings.  Rewards that will be given away include: DISCatcher targets, Innova merchandise, and a Sponsor's Exemption to compete in the 2008 United States Disc Golf Championships in Rock Hill, SC.  More information on the rewards program can be found here.

In addition to Innova's Sponsor Reward drawing, you will entered into a Kentucky State Tournament sponsor drawing as well, to be held at Kentucky State Doubles Championships.  You will not have to be present to win and the winner will receive a quality prize package.

The Kentucky State Championships CFR Champion Destroyer is available for $20, in person, through Fred Salaz.  Fred runs the Tuesday night ace fund at Mt. Airy, which tees off at 6pm every Tuesday, or you can contact him at: salazf(at)fuse.net.

2008 Kentucky State Championships Sponsor Opportunities

Idlewild Disc Golf Course will once again be hosting the 2008 Kentucky State Disc Golf Championships.

The singles tournament will be held on July 5th, 2008.

The doubles tournament will be held on September 27th, 2008.

Both tournaments will be two rounds at Idlewild and are sanctioned by the Professional Disc Golf Association.
